Insulin Resistance and Hyperinsulinemia are the major causes behind the disorder. In the body, insulin controls sugar. Insulin resistance means the failure of cells to respond to the action of insulin by transferring glucose (sugar) into the muscles and other tissues from the bloodstream. Hence pancreas produces more insulin to combat the high sugars. The actual or exact cause of PCOD remains to be unclear. The association of PCOD with:
- Low-grade inflammation,
- Excess insulin,
- High-quantity male hormone development (Hyperandrogenism), and Genetics can, however, be found.
Some of the further contributing variables of PCOD are:
- Early menarche age,
- An unhealthy lifestyle, and Polluting emissions.
Investigations like blood sugar estimation, thyroid hormone tests, ultrasound of the abdomen, and pelvis are done. Serum androgens, luteinizing hormones, and other estimates of hormonal tests are often suggested to be done. These tests are often very costly and troublesome for the patients. Patients sometimes lose hope in their treatment, and sometimes cannot even afford the basic diagnostic tests.
